How to Order Prescriptions

You can order your repeat prescription by:

  • ticking the boxes on your repeat slip.
  • completing a request form available from reception.
  • order online.

You cannot order prescriptions over the phone, unless for housebound or palliative care patients.

But, the local chemists operate an ordering and delivery service.

Please allow 2 working days when ordering your prescription.

Electronic Prescriptions (EPS)

If you collect repeat prescriptions from the same place:

  • you can collect repeat prescriptions from a pharmacy without visiting your GP
  • you won’t have paper prescriptions to lose.
  • you may spend less time waiting in the pharmacy.
  • the service is reliable, secure and confidential.

Nominating a pharmacy

You need to nominate or choose a pharmacy to collect your prescription from.

You can change your nominated pharmacy at any time:

  • Online, on the app or website where you order repeat prescriptions.
  • At your GP practice.
  • At any pharmacy that accepts repeat prescriptions.

You can usually your prescription from the pharmacy, 3 to 5 working days after you have ordered it.

Questions About Your Prescription

If you have questions about your medication, ask your local pharmacist.

You can also contact us at the surgery in three ways:

  • Submit an Online request using this form We will respond when we are open (Monday to Thursday 8am to 6.30pm). Friday – 8am to 1pm.
  • Phone our Practice if you have an urgent query about your medication.
  • For Hospital Prescriptions please raise the queries directly with your consultant.

Prescribing of ‘Over the counter’ medication is changing

We will not generally give you a prescription for medicines that you can buy in a pharmacy or supermarket.

This applies to treatments for the following conditions:

  • Acute sore throat                                        
  • Conjunctivitis, Coughs, colds & nasal congestion, cradle cap
  • Dandruff, Diarrhoea (adults) Dry eyes/sore tired eyes
  • Earwax, excessive sweating
  • Haemorrhoids, head lice
  • Indigestion & heartburn, Infant colic,
  • Infrequent cold sores of the lip, infrequent constipation, infrequent migraine, insect bites & stings
  • Mild acne, Minor burns & scalds, Mild cystitis, Mild dry skin, Mild irritant dermatitis,
  • Mild to moderate hay fever,
  • Minor pain, discomfort & fever (e.g. aches & sprains, headache, period pain, back pain)
  • mouth ulcers
  • Nappy rash
  • Oral thrush
  • Prevention of tooth decay
  • Ringworm/athlete’s foot
  • Sunburn, sun protection
  • Teething/mild toothache, threadworms, travel sickness
  • Warts and verrucae

We will generally not prescribe probiotics and some vitamins and minerals. You can get these by eating a healthy, varied diet or buy them at your pharmacy or supermarket.
